Amsterdam University College has successfully been awarded an Erasmus+ K220 Higher Education Cooperation grant for the project "REMAP: Reading for Meaning and Purpose." The grant, totaling EUR 250,000, will be distributed among the five partner institutions participating in the initiative. Dr. Emma Cohen de Lara (lecturer and tutor) played a pivotal role in the grant proposal and will serve as the project leader on behalf of AUC.

Enhancing student well-being through meaningful reading

In response to growing concerns about student well-being at universities, REMAP is a project that aims to address these challenges by promoting meaningful reading practices. These practices are designed to help students find purpose and meaning in their lives while meeting their intellectual, emotional, social and civic needs.

The REMAP project will focus on developing an evidence-based course that will be available to students across all participating universities. Additionally, the project will produce an open-access manual on meaningful reading, along with a teacher training guide designed to help university and secondary school educators engage their students in these practices. The initiative will also feature a series of expert-led events and dissemination activities involving both teachers and students.

REMAP's broader goal is to contribute to more inclusive and supportive university environments, including first-generation and vulnerable students.

International collaboration

REMAP is an international collaboration between the University of Navarra, the University of Amsterdam, the University of Latvia, the Bratislava International School of Liberal Arts and a consortium of secondary schools in Northern Spain. This project will start on 1 December 2024 and will run for a period of three years.

Erasmus+ K220: fostering innovation in higher education

Erasmus+ K220 Higher Education Cooperation grants seek to stimulate cooperation among institutions and improve the quality of higher education with innovative practices and methods. The primary goal of the grants is to allow organisations to increase the quality and relevance of their activities, to develop and reinforce their networks of partners, increase their capacity to operate jointly at the transnational level and to boost the internationalisation of their activities while sharing and exchanging new practices and methods.

With this grant, AUC and its partners are looking to make significant contributions to the well-being of students across Europe.
