An on-campus sample lecture in Amsterdam for students thinking about applying to AUC
You can register for the AUC sample lecture during the University of Amsterdam "Experience Days" by following the link below and selecting "Liberal Arts and Sciences (AUC)." Please note that this activity is mainly for prospective students considering the Sciences major, but students from all backgrounds are welcome to join.
This activity will not discuss the AUC programme. It is meant to give participants a sense of what a lecture is like at AUC. If you would like to get more practical information about studying at AUC and the academic programme, please find more options for study orientation activities on our website.
While the AUC programme addresses many of society’s biggest challenges, it is sometimes essential to delve into the very small. This is done the field of Nanoscience. Originally pioneered by physicists and chemists, the interdisciplinary field of nanoscience now offers diverse applications across numerous sectors. Interactions on the nanometre scale reveal the behaviour of complex materials, the foundations of information technologies, and the mechanisms of biological systems. The study of nanoscience enhances technologies in areas such as photovoltaics (solar cells), medicine, and computing. This sample lecture aims to introduce the field of nanoscience and to demonstrate how studying the very small is driving transformative change.
Prospective students who are thinking of applying to AUC frequently want to know what a class is like. With the diversity of courses offered, it can be difficult to choose a single representative class, as AUC students also take lab courses, conduct fieldwork outside of the classroom, participate in group work, immersive projects, give presentations and the subject matter often spans the Sciences, Social Sciences and Humanities. Nevertheless, we want to give prospective students the opportunity to get a feel for how course material is presented, the style of lectures and how subjects are approached in the classroom.
For this sample lecture, the activity will take place on-campus in Amsterdam so that you can experience what a class is like and better understand how course material is discussed.
