Waard, Marco de (Dr.)
Marco de Waard teaches English and comparative literature at AUC. Among his courses are: Introduction to Literary and Cultural Theory, Cultural Memory Studies and History of Ideas. He is also a research fellow at the Amsterdam School for Cultural Analysis (ASCA), where he is completing a monograph on the ‘uses of history’ in nineteenth-century liberal culture. His previous publications include the edited volume "Imagining Global Amsterdam: History, Culture, and Geography in a World City" (Amsterdam University Press, 2012).
Marco de Waard studied English and comparative literature at the Universities of Amsterdam and Sheffield and holds a PhD in intellectual history from the European University Institute, Florence. He joined AUC in 2009 as a lecturer and tutor, and has since served as Acting Head of Studies for the Humanities (2013 and 2016), as a member of the Board of Examiners (2010-2016) and as Faculty Development Coordinator (2016-present). Before coming to AUC he taught at Utrecht University and at the University of Amsterdam. In 2010, he received the AUC Teacher of the Year Award.
