Frank Beunk teaches the course Advanced Geosciences at AUC. He graduated in geology at the University of Amsterdam (1971) and worked as a lecturer and researcher at the UvA until 1985, and from 1985 onward at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. He has taught BSc and MSc courses in mineralogy, petrology, geochemistry and geological mapping. At the UvA, he set up a geochemical laboratory and developed geochemical research. Since his retirement, in 2008, he is a guest researcher at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. His present research focusses on solid Earth geology in Precambrian times, particularly in Scandinavia and Suriname, with an emphasis on (i) large scale deformation structures of the continental crust, and (ii) severe icehouse climatic conditions as preserved in the rock record.
