Szafraniec, Asja (Dr.)
Asja Szafraniec teaches Introduction to Literary and Cultural Theory at AUC. She studied English at Warsaw University and Philosophy at the University of Amsterdam. She holds a PhD in Philosophy from the University of Amsterdam. Her research and teaching interests focus on contemporary philosophy and its relation to literature and literary theory, film and religion. She has published on the relation between various strands of contemporary philosophy and a range of cultural phenomena such as literature and film. Her PhD thesis, Beckett, Derrida and the Event of Literature (Stanford University Press 2007) examined philosophical aspects of Samuel Beckett’s work, confronting it with philosophies of Gilles Deleuze, Jacques Derrida, Alain Badiou, and Stanley Cavell. Before joining AUC she was a post-doctoral fellow at the UvA and a visiting scholar at the Johns Hopkins University. In the past she taught metaphysics, philosophy of culture, philosophy of film, contemporary French philosophy, philosophy and literature and other courses.
