Dr. Mariëtte Willemsen lectures in the philosophy track at AUC. Furthermore, she works as an educational coach at VU/UvA to support lecturers in a teaching training programme for attaining their senior teaching qualification certificates.
Mariette Willemsen

Dr. Willemsen received her PhD in Philosophy and an MA in Dutch Linguistics and Literature from VU Amsterdam. The courses she (co)teaches at AUC are: Ethics, Comparative Philosophy, Philosophical Controversies and Modern Philosophical Texts (currently on Simone Weil, in the past on Friedrich Nietzsche and on Arthur Schopenhauer). She is interested in diversifying the philosophy curriculum, has a background as a Socratic trainer, and publishes on emotion theories and on the ethical ideas of Iris Murdoch and Simone Weil. Dr. Willemsen joined AUC in September 2011 as a tutor and lecturer, served as AUC's Senior Tutor from August 2014 through September 2016, and as AUC's Head of Studies Humanities until April 2021.
