Margriet van der Heijden teaches Academic English II and Big Questions in Science at AUC. After completing her Master's in Theoretical Physics at the Free University Amsterdam, Margriet obtained a PhD in particle physics (for research at the European Laboratory for Particle Physics, Cern) from the University of Amsterdam. Having worked as a postdoc for a couple of years she then turned to science journalism. Margriet has been editor-in-chief of the science desk of Dutch newspaper Het Parool, editor-in-chief of Hoe?Zo!Radio, president of the Dutch Association of Science Journalists, lecturer at Stichting Cursussen Wetenschapscorrespondentie and author of several non fiction children's books. She has been the science editor of NRC Handelsblad since 2006 and has extensive experience in portraying and explaining the importance of science to the general public in the Netherlands. At AUC she is also responsible for outreach to science institutes and related projects.
