The funds will be dedicated to setting up the new Student Engagement Platform at the FNWI and the Diversity Talks foundation will play a substantial role in this exciting initiative. Student engagement is an important theme in the new educational vision of the UvA and with the subsidy, many of the ideas and plans will now be able to come to fruition.

ECHO subsidy

The subsidy was awarded by ECHO, the Expertise Center for Diversity Policy of the Netherlands, and was announced at the Students 4 Students conference on Thursday, 13 June 2019. The UvA faculty was one of several educational institutions awarded a subsidy for projects that aim to increase equal opportunities and inclusivity for all students.  

AUC alumni continue work for educational engagement

Khaled Tamimy, Erik van Halewijn and Fatiya Munkaila are AUC alumni and founding members of Diversity Talks, which will now be involved in the FNWI’s Student Engagement Platform. Tamimy is one of two AUC alumni to have received an ECHO student award in recent years.  In 2017, Tamimy received the award for his work as a mentor with the foundation Stichting Diversity and his efforts at an emergency refugee centre.  All three students have substantial experience in pushing for increased student engagement with underserved or underrepresented communities in higher education in the Netherlands.
