What just happened in Brazil?!

14Nov2018 12:30 - 14:30

Lecture

Brazil’s 2018 presidential elections received a great deal of attention in international media. The victory of Jair Bolsonaro, infamous for his racist, classist, misogynist and LGBTQI-phobic statements, has been received by a large part of the Brazilian population, and by outside observers, with much concern. Which were the conditions that enabled and emboldened such a candidate? What does his victory mean for the everyday present and future life of Brazilians, for the young Brazilian democracy and for Brazil on the global stage? This event will address these questions through a roundtable debate with Brazilian scholars and expert observers, and conversations with the audience.
