Academic Challenge Project 2014

The Academic Challenge Project was an AUC-led initiative that provided high school pupils the opportunity to experience what it's like to be a college student. The project aims to develop pupils’ research skills, problem solving and critical thinking, and to provide pupils with the opportunity to discover and develop their academic/research talents while contemplating student success, performance and academic excellence. Participants were provided with the unique opportunity to experience the academic atmosphere at AUC. On 14 May 2014 the project ended with a festive conference at AUC.

32 students participated in the Academic Challenge Project

For this project, pupils worked with AUC students as they explored the meaning of academic excellence and ambition in a multidisciplinary set of workshops centered around a given theme.  Groups chose one of the themes outlined below:

·         Energy, Climate and Sustainability

·         Information, Communication and Cognition

Ten AUC students worked with 32 students from various high schools in the Amsterdam area on a range of projects centring around the two themes. They explored the meaning of academic excellence and ambition in a multidisciplinary set of workshops.  On 14 May the project concluded with a festive conference that included presentations and a poster session.

In the words of one of the participants: “We are very proud of all the pupils who took part, and we are delighted to have been able to give back to our community in the process. We hope that AUC can continue this project and hopefully make it a tradition as it really has been a pleasure for all of us, since day one”.
