Thijs de Boer teaches Geographical Information Systems (GIS) at AUC. He is GIS-Studio manager at the Institute for Biodiversity and Ecosystem Dynamics at the University of Amsterdam. He graduated in Physical Geography (1988) in Utrecht and received his PhD in Natural Sciences (Physical Geography) from the Humboldt University of Berlin (1992). His research projects include landscape development, especially Aeolian landscapes, Land Use/Cover Change analysis in which field studies, Geographical Information Systems, Remote Sensing and Digital Elevation information form the basis for landscape reconstruction models. His current teaching activities include geo-ecological fieldwork courses in Germany and the Netherlands. Practical and theoretical courses include bachelor and master level GIS and Remote Sensing, Natural Hazards and Landscape Analysis. One of his specializations is LiDAR research together with classic map- and air-photo interpretation and 3D ‘Virtual Globe’ applications.
