Bickelhaupt, Matthias (Prof. Dr.)

1 September 2012

Matthias Bickelhaupt teaches Computational Chemistry at AUC. He is also Professor of Theoretical Organic Chemistry and Biocatalysis in the Department of Theoretical Chemistry at VU University and Professor of Theoretical Organic Chemistry in the Institute of Molecules and Matter (IMM) at Radboud University Nijmegen. Matthias Bickelhaupt graduated in Chemistry at VU University Amsterdam and received his PhD on a combined mass spectrometric and theoretical investigation on base-induced elimination reactions at the University of Amsterdam. He has been a postdoctoral associated at the Universities of Erlangen (Germany), Calgary (Canada) and Cornell (USA). In 1997, he joined the University of Marburg (Germany) as Assistant Professor, got tenure in 1999, became Associate Professor in 2003 and Full Professor in 2009 at VU University. In 2002, he received the prestigious VICI award of the Netherlands Organization for Scientific Research (NWO) for the development of theories and models that enable one to predict and steer chemical reactions on the basis of the electronic structure of molecular systems.
