She studied fine art, biology and German at The George Washington University in Washington, DC, graduating summa cum laude. After receiving her BA, she moved to Berlin, Germany with a Fulbright Grant. She earned her MA in art history at Utrecht University, cum laude. Dr. Schoenberger finished her PhD at the Graduate Center, City University of New York. Her dissertation, “Ludic Conceptualism: Art and Play in the Netherlands from 1959 to 1975,” explores the critical capacity of play. Most recently, Dr. Schoenberger has completed fellowships at the Rijksmuseum and Yale University’s Beinecke Library. Her book, Waiting for the Witch Doctor: Robert Jasper Grootveld's Scrapbook and the Dutch Counterculture, was published by the Rijksmuseum in 2020.
