Niessen, Niels (Dr.)
Niels Niessen is an instructor in the Humanities at AUC.
Niels Niessen obtained his PhD (2013) in Comparative Literature from the University of Minnesota, after which he was a postdoc at the University of Toronto's Cinema Studies Institute. Currently, Niels works at the University of Amsterdam (Literary & Cultural Analysis) and at Amsterdam University College (Humanities). His areas of research and teaching are cultural critique, cinema and media studies, and everyday life in the Internet age. Niels' work has been published (or is forthcoming) in such journals as Camera Obscura, Cultural Critique, Screen, Cinema Journal, Discourse, and Film Criticism. He's also working on two book projects: Miraculous Realism: The French-Walloon Cinéma du Nord (forthcoming from SUNY Press) and Attention, or, What it Means to Be Present in the Internet Age (an online project in progress).
