Dr. Christina Buckley holds a Ph.D. in Hispanic Film and Cultural Studies from Tulane University (New Orleans, LA, US, 1998). Before joining AUC, she was Associate Professor of Modern Languages and Literatures at Furman University (Greenville, SC, US, 1998-2005) where she taught film, literature, language and cultural studies courses. After moving from the US to the Netherlands, she taught Identity Studies at the University of Amsterdam's International School for Humanities and Social Sciences, as well as at its Faculty of Humanities (2009-2011). Her main areas of research and teaching include Cultural Theory, Spanish language cinema (especially from Spain, Mexico, Cuba and the US), and Identity Studies (particularly with regard to class, nation, gender, and race and ethnicity). She is the author of numerous articles on Spanish and Latin(o) American Film and Culture, and co-authored the book Reframing Latin America: A Cultural Theory Reading of the Nineteenth and Twentieth Centuries (University of Texas Press, 2007). She hails originally from New York, but now lives in Amersfoort with her husband and two children.
