Bert van Es teaches Calculus at AUC. He graduated in Mathematics at the University of Amsterdam. Afterwards he spent some years as a PhD student at the Center for Mathematics and Computer Science (CWI) in Amsterdam and at the University of Amsterdam where he obtained his PhD on a subject of Mathematical Statistics. Subsequently he spent a year in Paris and a year at the University of Nijmegen before he returned returned to the UvA in 1991. Currently van Es is associate professor at the Korteweg-de Vries Institute for Mathematics at the UvA. His main interest is in nonparametric curve estimation, more specifically nonparametric density estimation. He is coordinator of the master Stochastics and Financial Mathematics. He also coordinates and teaches a part of the Forensic Statistics and DNA evidence course of the master Forensic Science. Bert van Es is chairman of the exam board of the master Forensic Science.
