Brown, Alexandra (Dr.)
Alexandra Brown teaches Communications and The Global Identity Experience at AUC. She received her PhD in Anthropology from McMaster University in 2012, while concurrently working with the Amsterdam School for Cultural Analysis. Her dissertation, “Visualizing Uncertainty: Opposition to Islam in the Netherlands Through the Lens of Fitna: The Movie”, integrates her interdisciplinary interests in ethnography, media studies, and cultural studies. Prior to her PhD Alexandra served as a fellow with the International Institute for the Study of Islam in the Modern World and completed her M.A. in Religious Studies. Alexandra has supplemented her academic activities with work for NGOs, including the World Wildlife Fund. Originally from Canada, she has called Amsterdam home since 2010.
