UvA & VU perform strongly in QS World Rankings
The University of Amsterdam (UvA) and Vrije Universiteit (VU) Amsterdam, AUC's parent institutes, have once again scored favourably in the latest edition of the QS World University Rankings published on Thursday, 7 June 2018. The University of Amsterdam has been ranked 57 overall and VU Amsterdam 231 overall.
QS ranking system
The QS World University Rankings are published annually and measure universities from around the world based on six main metrics: academic reputation (40%), employer reputation (10%), faculty-to-student ratio (20%), citations per faculty (20%), international faculty ratio (5%) and international student ratio (5%). These six metrics (weights indicated) are then developed into an index by which universities are ranked.
The most important element in this overview is Academic Reputation, which is formed on the basis of QS’s Academic Survey. This survey gathers the opinions of nearly 70.000 experts in higher education and collects data related to teaching and research quality.
UvA & VU in QS World Rankings 2019
This year, the University of Amsterdam has risen one place from 58 in 2017-2018 to 57 for the 2019 edition of the QS World Rankings, while the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam has been ranked 231. The University of Amsterdam therefore remains in the top 60 of universities worldwide, and is in the top 15 universities in Europe.
The other Dutch universities in the top 100 included TU Delft (52) and TU Eindhoven (99).
AUC as a joint initiative
Part of both the University of Amsterdam and Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, Amsterdam University College does not receive a separate ranking in international ranking lists, but rather as a joint initiative of both research universities.
