AUC alumnus wins Netspar thesis award
AUC alumnus Jakub Polansky (Class of 2017) was recently announced as one of the winners of the Netspar thesis awards for his Capstone project “Direct Residential Mortgage Investments in Dutch Pension Fund Portfolios.”
Netspar thesis awards
Netspar, the Network for Studies on Pensions, Aging and Retirement, is a think-tank based in the Netherlands that seeks to examine issues of economic and social impact associated with pensions, aging populations and retirement in Europe. This knowledge network actively reaches out to policymakers, scholars and professionals to help advance research and bring attention to these issues.
One of their initiatives is their annual thesis awards. Netspar selects five projects for awards of EUR 3.000 each with topics related to the financing of old age and aging. Themes of interest include sustainable pension systems, how people prepare for old age, how pensions funds and insurance companies invest capital and judge risks for clients, and the relationship between pension and housing needs, amongst others.
Dutch mortgage market & pension funds
Jakub Polansky, who was a Social Sciences major at AUC, submitted his thesis for consideration, which analysed the investment behaviour of Dutch pension funds with special attention given to the role of residential mortgage investments.
The first portion of Polansky’s paper looks at the Dutch mortgage market and the role of pension funds. The second portion draws attention to whether borrower, lender or loan specific characteristics influenced the investment behaviour of Dutch pension funds related to direct residential mortgage investments. Polansky’s findings show that these characteristics had a statistically significant impact on mortgage debt volumes issued by pension funds, and further confirms there is a significant link between mortgage default rates and the funding ratio of pension funds.
Polansky received his award during the Netspar International Pension Workshop in Leiden, along with four other recipients.
AUC would like to congratulate Jakub on receiving the award.
