AUC participates in European Union Social Responsibility Days
AUC third-year students Ellen Ackroyd and Khaled Tamimy recently joined Dean of AUC, Prof. Dr. Murray Pratt, for a two-day conference and workshop exploring University Social Responsibility at the European Parliament in Brussels.
Integrating social responsibility in university activities
The aim of the event was to bring together university leaders, lecturers and students with higher education professionals and policy makers from Europe and Latin America to consider innovative ways of making social responsibility a central focus of research, education and other university activities.
AUC initiatives as exemplary
The AUC team presented a paper entitled Outreach, Engagement and Social Responsibility in a Global City – In and Beyond the Curriculum, with Tamimy outlining how AUC’s focus on diversity comes to life in the form of student-led projects and organisations, and Ackroyd describing the achievements of Right2Education, a student initiative that offers language lessons to refugees, in community building through learning and sharing.
Prof. Dr. Pratt concluded by emphasising the many ways in which AUC builds links between scientific discovery and community engagement within courses as well as extra-curricular activities.
The event, which took place at the European Parliament and the Université Libre de Bruxelles, was co-organised by the European Network of Socially Responsible Universities (USR-Net) and CONEXX, and included a reception at the Embassy of Argentina in Brussels.
