Dilemmas in Humanitarian Aid

After graduating from Medical School at the University of Amsterdam in 2008 and finishing his post graduate training in Tropical Medicine at the University of Liverpool, Thomas Pols started working for Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF). From 2011 and 2014, Pols worked for five MSF missions in Pakistan, South Sudan and Sierra Leone. Between missions, he obtained an MA in Law and Diplomacy from the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy at Tufts University near in Massachusetts. There, he wrote his thesis on the international response to the Ebola outbreak in West Africa. On 22 March, Pols will visit Amsterdam University College to speak about his experiences with MSF, about the organisation in general and will discuss the dilemmas one faces when working in humanitarian aid.

Speaker:  Thomas Pols is an experienced humanitarian doctor who spent time working in South Sudan, Pakistan and Sierra Leone. Currently, he is applying these experiences in his job as Business Health Adviser with Royal Dutch Shell.
