An insider’s view on weather forecasting

06Mar2017 11:00 - 12:30

Dr. Peter Kuipers Munneke is one of the weather presenters of the Dutch National Broadcasting Foundation, NOS. He also works as a glaciologist, studying glaciers and ice sheets at Utrecht University. In this talk he will take the audience on a journey of what goes into making a televised weather forecast. What does the rest of his day look like as he makes his way to the NOS studio in Hilversum? Each time, he must make his own weather forecast using the various methods at his disposal: from state-of-the-art meteorological model outputs to taking a good look outside. This lecture is open to everybody who has an interest in the weather, and let’s face it: who doesn't?
