Amsterdam University College (AUC), a joint initiative of the University of Amsterdam (UvA) and VU University Amsterdam, celebrated its second Dies Natalis (anniversary) on Thursday 22 September 2011. The official speakers at this event were Prof. Alexander Rinnooy Kan, president of the Social and Economic Council of the Netherlands and professor of Policy Analysis in the Private and Public Sectors at the UvA, and Dr. Marja Zonnevylle, site manager at Shell Technology Centre Amsterdam. Dr Bart van Heerikhuizen was named AUC Teacher of the Year.
On 21 September, a topping out ceremony was held for the new Amsterdam University College (AUC) building in the presence of the contractor, subcontractors, builders, architects and the prospective users, the AUC students and staff. AUC is a joint initiative of the University of Amsterdam (UvA) and the VU University Amsterdam (VU).
Six companies have committed themselves to making a financial contribution to the Amsterdam University College Scholarship Fund (ASF) for three years. This was announced by the Mayor of Amsterdam, Eberhard van der Laan, during the ASF Fundraising Dinner on Tuesday, 17 May. The ASF awards scholarships to talented students who require financial support to study at Amsterdam University College (AUC). The ASF is sponsored by Shell, Rabobank, Schiphol Group, KLM, Akzo Nobel and PwC. In addition, the University of Amsterdam and VU University Amsterdam, AUC's parent institutions, also contribute to the Scholarship Fund.
Students from Amsterdam University College (AUC), a joint initiative of the University of Amsterdam (UvA) and VU University Amsterdam (VU), will drive the symbolic foundation pile for the new building of AUC at Science Park Amsterdam on 10 February 2011.
On Monday 29 March, Her Royal Highness Princess Máxima of The Netherlands visited Amsterdam University College (AUC) where she met students and staff.
