AUC Welcomes the Class of 2019
The 2016 AUC Introduction Week took place from 29 August – 2 September 2016, during which more than 350 new AUC students and exchange students participated in a week-long orientation programme.
Students from around the world in Amsterdam
The AUC Class of 2019 officially arrived at AUC last week to start their three year programme in Amsterdam. Consisting of more than 45 different nationalities from all over the world, they are the largest and most diverse group to start at AUC. In addition to the more than 300 full-programme students, AUC also welcomed over 45 exchange students from 19 different countries who will be studying abroad for a semester or full year at AUC.
Settling into life at AUC
With the help of over 65 student mentors, the introduction programme kicked-off with an official welcome by Dean Murray Pratt, followed by a Dutch themed lunch, meetings with tutors and an opportunity to buy their first bikes. The intensive programme included learning the in’s and out’s of the AUC academic programme and residential life, taking care of administrative details with the city, meeting and greeting staff over burgers and drinks during a barbecue, discovering the fascinating research institutes at Science Park, having one-on-one meetings with their tutors and paying an educational visit to Artis Zoo.
AUCSA and community building
The AUC Student Association (AUCSA) also contributed immensely to the week, organising a committee market to increase student involvement in extracurricular activities, hosting a pot-luck dinner in the dorms, showing students around their new neighbourhood on a bike tour, getting them acquainted with the city of Amsterdam through a “Crazy 44” scavenger hunt, arranging a celebratory talent show and planning a relaxing weekend away near Utrecht to close out the week.
Central to the week was community building and a smooth transition to university life at AUC. With all students back from their weekend away, we would like to thank all of those involved for creating a successful Intro Week and look forward to an inspiring academic year!
