FAQ: What kind of degree does AUC offer?

AUC offers a Bachelor (Honours) degree. The Honours classification will be awarded to AUC students who graduate with a final GPA above a certain level.

If you major in the social sciences or humanities, you qualify for a Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree. If you major in the sciences, you qualify for a Bachelor of Science (BSc) degree.

Dutch law distinguishes between Bachelor degrees awarded for 'research-oriented higher education' (wo-bachelor) and those awarded for 'higher professional education' (hbo-bachelor). AUC offers a wo-bachelor.

The Netherlands Organization for International Cooperation in Higher Education (Nuffic) offers more information on Dutch higher education, and English translations of Dutch higher education terminology - see links below.

The AUC programme has been accredited by the NVAO (the Accreditation Organisation of the Netherlands and Flanders). The University of Amsterdam and VU University Amsterdam applied together for accreditation, and these two top-rated European research universities therefore award the AUC degrees.

The two universities intend to offer the AUC programme as a joint degree just as soon as this is possible under Dutch law.
