Amsterdam University College (AUC) has a strong focus on interdisciplinary training in the sciences. We do so, because we strongly believe that the natural sciences, health and life sciences, and information sciences play a pivotal role in the solution of highly complex problems in our global society. These major challenges require young creative minds equipped with strong analytical skills, rigorous disciplinary knowledge and the ability to navigate at the interface of disciplines.
Additionally, cross-training in other areas such as the humanities and social sciences not only broaden the general academic horizon, but more importantly they provide the basis to discriminate between facts and opinions, deal with contradictory data, weight their values and articulate a concise argument. This cross-training, typical for a Liberal Arts and Sciences curriculum, will equip our students with a solid foundation for their further careers, with transferable skills that will be valuable for any profession, including those not yet invented!
AUC's science curriculum embraces this view by providing a carefully structured course sequence supported by various methodology courses along defined interdisciplinary themes. Such an approach stimulates scientific enquiry and intellectual curiosity, ultimately preparing AUC science graduates to pursue advanced studies in competitive graduate programmes in the Netherlands and abroad.
I welcome you to join this programme and embark on the challenging journey in the sciences.
With kind regards,
Dr. Ramon Puras
Head of Studies Sciences and Director of Education.
