How to apply

Same procedure for all students

Please read the information on our admission requirements carefully.

All potential students (Dutch and international) have to complete our application form and go through our admissions process.

There are four main steps to the application, admission and enrolment procedure:

1. Send your application: meet the minimum requirements

You must complete the application form carefully and send it to AUC, together with all the required documentation. We will check if you meet the minimum requirements and have sent us all the information we need.

To apply to start at AUC in September 2010 please follow links below. The 'early bird' deadline was 15 January 2010, the regular deadline was 1 March 2010. Applications for September 2010 are still open, and late applications from potential Science majors are welcome. We will keep and process all other late applications, but we may not take all into consideration for entry in September 2010.

If your diploma is from outside the EU/EEA, and/or you will need an entrance visa to come and study in the Netherlands, we need to receive your complete application before the 'early bird' deadline.

If you want to request a transfer of credit: please see link below.

If you will need financial support such as a scholarship in order to study at AUC: please see link below.

2. Selected for interview

If your application is complete and meets the minimum requirements, it will be reviewed by AUC. AUC looks for students with the following characteristics:

  • academic excellence: you must demonstrate your ability to meet the academic demands of the AUC programme
  • motivation and ambition to study an intensive and broad programme
  • commitment to contribute to AUC's international student and campus life

A decision will be made on whether or not to invite you for a personal admissions interview. If you are invited for an interview this means that, based on your paper application, there appears to be a good match between your academic interests, skills and ambitions, and the AUC programme. If you live within a day's return travel from Amsterdam (by car/train/bus) you will usually be expected to attend the interview in person. A Skype or telephone interview can be arranged if you are living further away.

For students wanting to start their studies at AUC in September 2010, we expect to start reviewing applications towards the end of 2009, and to hold most interviews in March/April 2010. 'Early bird' applications may be interviewed earlier in 2010.

3. Invited to study at AUC

Following the interviews, the AUC Admissions Committee advises which students appear to be best qualified for participation in the AUC programme and should be invited to study at AUC. You may still have to meet certain conditions (for example, you may not yet have obtained your secondary school diploma, or you might have to improve your English or mathematics skills). You may need a visa/residence permit to study in the Netherlands, and of course you have to pay the fees.

For students applying to start their studies in September 2010, we expect to make the decisions in May 2010.

4. Enrolment

If all goes well - you complete the admissions procedure and meet any conditions - you will be enrolled at AUC and registered with the University of Amsterdam and VU University Amsterdam as an AUC student. We look forward to welcoming you in Amsterdam!
