Dean

Marijk van der Wende is the founding Dean of Amsterdam University College. She is a professor in higher education at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam and an honorary professor at CHEPS, the University of Twente. She chairs the Undergraduate Committee of the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam and previously chaired its Honours Committee and its Internationalization Board.

She is vice and past President of the Governing Board of the Programme on Institutional Management in Higher Education (IMHE) of the OECD, Member of the International Advisory Board of the Centre for the Study of World Class Universities, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Member of the Higher Education Authority Ireland, Member of the Scientific Board of the Dutch Military Academy, and member of various national and international editorial boards.

She previously held positions at CHEPS, the University of Twente (1998-2008), the University of Amsterdam (1998-2000), the Academic Cooperation Association (ACA) in Brussels (1994-1998), Nuffic (1992-1998), and was a visiting scholar at the Centre for Studies in Higher Education, at the University of California at Berkeley (USA).

Van der Wende holds BA degrees in teaching and pedagogy, and MA and PhD degrees in educational sciences, from the University of Amsterdam and the University of Utrecht respectively.

Director of Education and Head of Studies (Sciences)

Dr. Ramon Puras is AUC's Director of Education and Head of Studies (Sciences). He also co-teaches Introduction to Biology at AUC.

Ramon Puras graduated (Diplom) in Chemistry/Biochemistry at the Freie Universität Berlin (Germany). He received his PhD on ‘HIV integrase: a target for drug discovery' (AIDS research) from the Netherlands Cancer Institute in Amsterdam, and followed postdoctoral studies at the VU University Amsterdam. He has been a lecturer at Utrecht University and University College Utrecht (UCU) and he was involved in the development of the Prestige Master programme in Biomolecular Sciences. Before joining AUC in 2008, he was responsible for the international master’s programme in Oncology at VU University Medical Center.

Managing Director and Admissions Officer

Dr. Belinda Stratton is Managing Director and Admissions Officer.  

Belinda Stratton obtained her BSc (Honours) and PhD in Chemistry at the University of East Anglia in the UK, with a study abroad period at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst. After her studies she worked in an editorial department of the scientific publishing company Pergamon Press, before moving to the Netherlands and starting work at the European Association for International Education (EAIE) in 1993. She was the EAIE's Publications and Information Manager when she was recruited to the AUC team at the end of 2007.

Director Marketing, Communication and Internationalisation

Drs. Mariette Diderich is Director Marketing, Communication and Internationalisation.

Mariette Diderich obtained her BA (Honours) in European Studies at the University of Hull, and her MA in European Studies at the University of Amsterdam, with study abroad periods in Spain (Universidad de Oviedo) and Mexico (internship at a Mexican NGO). After her studies she worked at Nuffic (Netherlands organization for international cooperation in higher education), the National Unesco Commission and the Fulbright Center, Amsterdam. From 2000 to 2008 she was a Policy Advisor for International Relations at the University of Amsterdam (Academic Affairs), before she joined the AUC team in January 2008.

Head of Studies (Academic Core) and Curriculum Manager

AUC's Head of Studies (Academic Core) and Curriculum Manager is Deirdre Klein Bog, MA.

Before joining Amsterdam University College as its Academic Coordinator, Deirdre Klein Bog was Deputy Director (Management) of the Amsterdam Business School. She joined the business school at its beginning in 2001. Before this she had been head of the Financial English Department of the Amsterdam Academy (a joint venture of Hogeschool Holland and VU University Amsterdam). Originally from Northern Ireland, Deirdre Klein Bog obtained her MA in History and Political Science from Trinity College, Dublin, and her postgraduate degree in education (PGCE) from the University of Greenwich in London.

Head of Studies (Social Sciences): Dr. Louise Vigeant

Dr. Louise Vigeant is AUC's Head of Studies (Social Sciences) and Senior Tutor.

Louise Vigeant has a PhD in philosophy from Cornell University, USA. She also holds a BA in philosophy from the University of Ottawa, Canada, an MA in linguistics from Stanford University, USA, and an MA in philosophy from Carleton University, Canada. She has extensive teaching experience at universities in the United States, Canada, and the Netherlands in the fields of linguistics, philosophy, and political theory.

Head of Studies (Humanities): Dr. Rebecca Lindner

Dr. Rebecca Lindner is AUC's Head of Studies (Humanities) and Coordinator of the Academic English programme.

Rebecca Lindner holds a PhD in Renaissance literature from the University of Wales (UK) and is a specialist in early-modern European literature, history, and culture. She has published on the rise of prose fiction in Britain, and her thesis examined politics and authorship in seventeenth-century British and French literary culture. Before joining AUC in 2009, she was an Assistant Professor of English at Northern Illinois University (USA), where she taught literature and women's studies. She has also worked in academic publishing and humanities research funding. Her main research and teaching interests are in literary history, academic English, and interdisciplinary practice in the humanities.
